Playing Holidays

July 20th, 2005 by Laura Moncur in Motivation

I think about this quotation a lot. I work a full time job in addition to all the writing that I do and sometimes I fantasize about what my life would be like if I could just quit my full time job and write full time. This quote always comes to mind when I do.

I imagine a life completely devoted to writing to be as fun as when I’m writing at home after a long day at work. I also write in the early morning before I go to work. I spend most of my free time writing and it is a relaxing escape for me. Would it be like that if I were to quit my full time job?

Not according to William Shakespeare. If all I had to do was write, writing would be as tedious as work. He must have experienced this phenomenon. He must have had a time in his life when he was expected to live a life of leisure. I wonder how he learned that a life of leisure can be as taxing as a life of labor.

We couldn’t have lasted this long without our loyal visitors, so thanks as always for your support. I’ve also made some minor changes to the site design today, so reload your browser if things look strange. More exciting new features are coming by the end of the year.
