This quotation came up in the motivational quotations random search the other day and I was surprised by it. I don’t know why I put it in the motivational quotes, because it seems rather unmotivational.
Don’t you think?
I’ve since moved it to the Classic Collection. It’s a great quote, but I don’t want someone who is feeling a little depressed to turn to our motivational quotes in desperation and find this quote.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, are still bothered about the episode of their show that was pulled. The episode, “Trapped in the Closet,” featured Tom Cruise as a character. Unfortunately, the episode was poised to air around the theatrical release of Mission Impossible: III. Paramount, who owns both South Park AND the Mission Impossible franchise, refused to air the episode.
“So there are two things we can’t do on Comedy Central: show Muhammad or Tom Cruise,” Trey Parker said.
Comedy Central president Doug Herzog admitted, “It’s tough, but I think I would say we did overreact. … Matt and Trey enjoy a fair amount of creative freedom. History might show that we overreacted, and we will live with that.”
South Park has been a favorite of ours for quotations. You can see the whole collection here:
If you would like to create your own South Park-styled character (as I did above), you can do it here:

I spent some time learning Morse Code when I was younger. While nothing much came of that, and the Internet sprung up to serve my global communication needs, it is still a fond memory.
Morse code is still popular among hobbyists, and Morse Resource is a handy site with useful links as well as a utility that produces Morse code MP3 files from any text file.
What does this have to do with quotations? Funny you should ask. Morse Resource has podcasts that include our Quotes of the Day in Morse code at four different speeds, one of which is even slow enough for me to transcribe.
I’d like to thank the folks at Morse Resource for offering our quotations in a truly unique format. If you want to learn Morse code, enjoy codes in general, or just want to freak people out by listening to it at high volume, I recommend it.

Shame on Johann Wolgang von Goethe. I have found that the more I diversify my interests, the more inspired I am to work on everything. If I took Goethe’s advice, there would be no Starling Fitness, Starling Travel or even this weblog. None of them would exist because I would be “concentrating” my powers on my personal weblog, Pick Me!
The next time you feel the urge to start a new project, don’t let this quotation stop you for a second. Doing things that you are interested in fuels your imagination and makes your normal work even more meaningful.

I love this quotation because it reminds me whose fault it is if my secrets are revealed. It’s mine for telling them in the first place.
I try to live my life without secrets. So much of my life is online and available for the world to know that I forget that the people in my life don’t read all of my weblogs. My mom doesn’t even read my personal weblog. Things that I have revealed and opened up freely are just there floating in the wind, but have stopped being revealed to the people closest to me.
I’m waiting for that day when they find it all. I’m not hiding, but I think that my friends and family don’t quite realize how much they could find out about me if they just read my weblogs. I know I write about a lot of insignificant things, but those are the things that are floating around in my head. Anyone who wanted to know about me could find them out.
Kahlil Gibran doesn’t have a corollary to that quotation, but if I were to create one it would be:
If you live your life without secrets, the wind will become bored of you and even the trees will stop listening.
