- As a scientist, I am not sure anymore that life can be reduced to a class struggle, to dialectical materialism, or any set of formulas. Life is spontaneous and it is unpredictable, it is magical. I think that we have struggled so hard with the tangible that we have forgotten the intangible.
- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Zarya, 1994
- Getting my lifelong weight struggle under control has come from a process of treating myself as well as I treat others in every way.
- Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), O Magazine, August 2004
- Death is the enemy. I spent 10 years of my life singlemindedly studying, practicing, fighting hand to hand in close quarters to defeat the enemy, to send him back bloodied and humble and I am not going to roll over and surrender.
- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, First Snow, 1993
- After you've been in a place for a while, everything starts to look... I won't say better, there's no need to go to extremes...but your everyday life does start to become...familiar.

- Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park, Prehistoric Ice Man, 1999
- I am going to concentrate on what's important in life. I'm going to strive everyday to be a kind and generous and loving person. I'm going to keep death right here, so that anytime I even think about getting angry at you or anybody else, I'll see death and I'll remember.
- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Do The Right Thing, 1992
- A person has three choices in life. You can swim against the tide and get exhausted, or you can tread water and let the tide sweep you away, or you can swim with the tide, and let it take you where it wants you to go.
- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Northern Lights, 1993
- I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't think you can measure life in terms of years. I think longevity doesn't necessarily have anything to do with happiness. I mean happiness comes from facing challenges and going out on a limb and taking risks. If you're not willing to take a risk for something you really care about, you might as well be dead.
- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Northern Lights, 1993
