So much of my personality can be attributed to her Sharkey. I must have listened to Sharkey’s Night enough times to permanently burn William S. Burroughs‘ voice into my memory. I wanted to be Sharkey so much that I memorized every word she told me he said:

I never owned an album with the song, Language Is A Virus, on it, but I taped it off the radio. Take that, DRM Nazis!

It’s funny how an artist from our youth can be rediscovered and found just as interesting the second time around as the first. It’s amazing how well her music has aged.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, Samuel Goldwyn came to the United States at the age of 16 without a penny to his name. Within twenty years, he was one of most influential movie producers of his time.

He was the producer of over 125 films including:

• Wuthering Heights with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon

• The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant and Loretta Young

He’s best known for the things that he did (and didn’t) say. One of the most misquoted people in history, he actually sent press releases with “quotations” thought up by his staff. Lem is seldom quoted. You might disagree if you search for Lem quotations, but I can assure you that most of those are incorrectly attributed to Lem and actually come from Polish writer Stanislaw J. Lec. We’ve only been able to source three verifiable Stanislaw Lem quotations:

When I was a real estate agent, I read every sales book I could get my hands on, from Napoleon Hill to Zig Ziglar. I avoided Og Mandino’s book, “The Greatest Salesman in the World” because I thought it was too Christian for my taste. Sadly, because of this, I missed out on some of the greatest inspirational writings.

On February 4th, Betty Friedan died. She was 85 years old and her contributions to the women’s movement were phenomenal. Can you imagine my surprise when I realized that the Quotations Page had NO quotations from her?!

She was the author of the book, The Feminine Mystique and her work helped millions of women stop living their lives through their husbands and children and start fulfilling their own dreams.
