Money in and of itself does not have meaning, and therefore lacks the power needed to control. It is a result of the meanings attached to the idea of money that it accrues value.
In a capitalist society, money is seen as the measure of success, and is thus valued highly. It is in this way that we as, broadly speaking part of the same capitalist society, are controlled, not by money, but the need and desire to possess it.
I am curious, if you give a $10 bill to a member of a tribe untouched by global human influence (or interference), what would they use it for?

Under those circumstances it would not be a '$10.oo' note, just a piece of paper? What we perceive as it's 'value' is only our points system for trade?

There are always 2 facets to the story and will remain that way, really. People have different views and what one might see fit might not work very well with the other. By the end of the day, it will still be all about which is going to be more important.
Some people live for it while other live by it. I guess it will help to know how you go about life thinking of it, I mean, do you live to make money?
