How many of you have fallen into the fad? I know I have.

To those who remember older Startrek, I feel as though Facebook, Twitter etc, etc is gradually turning sections of humans into The Borg. This race only had one communal mind and the minute a thought or command was entered into one borg the whole race believed and acted in unison.
This huge, communal interaction going on worldwide, is so easily, silently and cleverly manipulated, by the ridiculous press, the lying politicians, the corporate consumer organisations and big self serving financial interests, it is small wonder that less and less people actually take the trouble to work things out for themselves.
They are so ready to lap up the beliefs and habits they are fed. These beliefs etc gain credibility simply by being shared and spread continually and fast and the circles widen.
Cynical? Yes indeed, I have seen it happening in so many ways. Sorry? Infinitely so, but quite probably inevitable.

In a word, ditto.
As I said previously, social interaction for the socially inept.

I enjoy Facebook, but I don't spend hours each day there. I also do not use it to report my every move, i.e. "I went shopping today."
I've enjoyed staying in contact with family and friends. Exchanging brief notes are nice for those with whom I otherwise might have had no communication.
Facebook has also been good for my business in a variety of ways.

This quote is from Betty White when she appeared on Saturday Night Live:
“I really have to thank Facebook… I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time. I would never say the people on it are losers, but that’s only because I’m polite. Needless to say, we didn’t have Facebook when I was growing up. We had phonebook, but you wouldn’t waste an afternoon with it.”

A Policeman giving a talk on computer safety at the local school asked who did not have a Facebook account. One wee girlie put up her hand. Nice Mr. Policeman waited for the laughter to die down and asked her to join him at the front of the class, then told the rest of them to look long and hard at the only intelligent member of the class.
Facebook, f*#k off!

I would need to get a more reliable computer first. I wouldn't know what to put on my Facebook page. My buddy Mike, who's in his 40's, decided to check it out, just for the heck-of-it, not expecting to lke it, but then he really enjoyed finding people from high school and grade school there. He highly recommended it. When I got home and tried to look into it and maybe register, my lame computer acted up and wouldn't cooperate. Mike found our old buddy, Doug, who he hadn't had contact with for over 20 years, and Doug asked how I was doin'. I don't know what posts I would make. The last few years have not been the best. In fact they have been..... how should I understate it ..... "unpleasant" for me, one thing after another. I don't have much positivity to post. I don't want to be a moaning, complaining sad sack on an internet site. I wish I could contribute more to this forum, but lately I've been foggy minded, air-headed, worn out, perplexed.... and now here I am starting to type out some of what I wouldn't want to put on Facebook (ha ha)

I must say, I do have an account on Facebook, and my god I'm not proud of it. Most of my father's side of the family will only communicate with me through it, so I found it to be a necessary evil. I rarely use it for a reason other than communication with close friends or relatives.

I don't think there's much difference between Facebook and the Fluff Forum here... both ways to connect with virtual friends from different parts of this sweet old world.

Your post was meant for me. Writer Fox just joined Facebook, but I have no idea what to do with it! I feel like Betty White, except her excuse is that she is REALLY old. My excuse is that I'm a fox and don't understand everything about humans.
That said, now that I have a Facebook page, what should I do with it?

Run, run while you're still free. Otherwise, feel free to add anyone you know if you're stuck in the trap.
