I was watching a documentary last night on Songdo city, a huge development in Korea..

This is a city being built on land created by filling in sea with 500, 000, 000 tommes of dirt..

The Arabs are creating islands in funny shapes by filling in area's af sea..

When the 'experts' talk about rising sea levels, do they account for this stuff?.

Good thoughts - we have also reclaimed swampland in many countries and built barriers like those they are planning to interfere with the high tides that flood Venice every year. The water has to go somewhere.

Maybe we should let the water find its natural levels and plan a future like that shown in the old film "Waterworld"?

I saw a programme about Masdar, it is a brilliant design and almost completely run using renewable resources.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masdar_City

If all future cities could be built on these lines we really would be getting somewhere. BUT it has clearly cost zillions and to live there you will probably be among the very very rich or employed by them
.
The gap between the rich and poor is growing wider and wider, and the future prospects of a completely removed "elite" seems very possible.
