I used to believe that both happiness and sadness were illusions, but my mind is about to change...
A list of recent events made me the happiest! (:
My dear gf, she who has been away from me for 4 years, at last is coming to the city where i live. She will always be with me, by this time.
One of my poems is used in a song by one of my favourite bands. And people really liked it.
An article completely about me is published in a leading poetry magazine. They called me "promising and perhaps the greatest young poet of Turkey"
I managed to quit bio-engineering and now gained right to study in the best university of Turkey.
I'm really, really cheerful now. And somewhere in my heart i know that this can't be illusion, because illusions affects the mind, not heart...

Happiness is not an illusion. Why do you think people laugh and smile Tony? You just know happiness and sadness when and how it strikes your innermost emotions. Sensing how joyful you are right now, i just have to tell you to keep it up!

DSW, did you mean "I salute thee"? You added a word to your Turkish repertory, if "seni" doesn't have a meaning in english (: if it is, thanks

seni selamlıyorum==> I salute thee
but we ultra-nationalist don't like the word "selam" because it is an arabic loanword. we prefer "esenlikler dilerim" meaning "I wish blessings and health (for you)" this is the end of today's Turkish course
it is a kind gesture,DSW, thanks (:

at first, i should explain some unique Turkish terms etc., so you can understand.
"Grup Orhun",(Band of Orhun) is an Anatolian Rock band performing nationalist songs and influenced nationalists of Turkey. Orhun was believed to be holy river of the ancient Turks.
Kızıl Elma:"The Red Apple" is a symbol that has been used for 5000 years of Turkish Army tradition, symbolizes "the land that is aimed to be conquered". Scholars believe that this is derived from "the setting sun", which resembles a red apple, and Turks have always migrated westwards.
Mavera:Spiritual Centre of the Muslim-Turks. The word comes from the term" Maveraünnehir"(i think it is probably arabic) meaning "The land between two rivers." Mavera is now used as "Utopia".
Tanrı Türk'ü Korusun:Famous Turkish nationalist slogan, means "God save the Turk". It was the title of my poem.
and one more note, Great Turkic Homeland, called Turan, is now seperated into many states, Contains independent Turkey,Azerbaijan,North Cyprus Turkish Republic,Kazakhstan,Kyrgizistan,Turkmenistan,Uzbekistan states and non-independent East Turkestan Uighur Republic in china, South Azerbaijan in iran, Kirkuk in iraq,Tuva and many numerous states in Russia and etc.Uighurs, Turkmens of Kirkuk and Turks of South Azerbaijan are still resisting against invaders, song was inspired by them.
They took the third stanza of my poem, which contains the term "kızıl elma" in it. At the end of the song, vocalist of the band recites it.
Here comes the translation of the lyrics:
We are on the way to thee, our Kızıl Elma(Red Apple)
We took oaths and are now ready to risk our heads
We have been fighting for your sake
Let us sacrifice our blood on the way to thee!
Chorus:
"Even if barbed wire seperates us
We haven't fallen back, and will not!
Oh, Kızıl Elma, Oh independent homeland!
Tyranny has never daunted us, and will not!"
We are on the edge of the Mavera
Our hearts are filled with hope
We know that there's a long way to victory
But our dream will come true one day!
Chorus.
And part of my poem:
The one who betrays his/her homeland cannot be a "noble one"(i translated the word "mert" as noble one, but it can't be fully translated. it is a title given to people who act knightly)
And the ordeal on the way to Kızıl Elma can't cause grief, but joy
And a wolf can't be a wolf unless thousands of dogs bark behind him(A Turkish proverb)
Dogs bark and the caravan advances(Turkish proverb), let those dogs bark
And God save the Turk from forgetting his/her Turkishness!

Thank you very much Tony for taking the trouble to explain and translate so much, it is greatly appreciated. I'm printing it out to look at it more carefully.
Hope your happiness continues.

and i translated the poem which caused that article to be published. It was inspired by the drawing of René Magritte, named "La Reproduction Interdite". Here comes the translation:
"La Reproduction Interdite"(1)
Can a building be in a sulk with its city?It is! I'm alone...
Those who pass-by on the street! As if I were your enemy,
Seems that my room is isolated from the rest of the world...
My ruined window stares at you like an orphan
You look for a moment, then run away, what you see scares you
A pair of eyes tired of the lie called "life"...
As I burn, I want to be burnt more and more, so "lame" my love is!
"Because to feel is everything"(2) If i do not feel, I die
Its solace is a catastrophe for me, since my pain was wrapped in love.
My lament tinkles like a "mahur"(3) ballad, note after note
Such a painting my loneliness is drawing tonight:
Even my reflection in the mirror has turned its back on me.
1:La Reproduction Interdite, the drawing above, meaning "Not to be reproduced"
2:A quote from Leopold von Sacher-Masoch
3:mahur is one concept of Turkish classic music
you can find its original in Turkish here:
