Why do people lie?

If it is our nature to use lying to get out of predicaments in a tricky way so why other people take lying as a 'hobby'?

Human nature is inclined to be more evil and leaning on to more nasty qualities or am I be mistaken again?

The problem with lies is that while others find these mental concoctions harmless, they actually come true. Say for example, if an employee lies on the true reason why he was late for work and claims that his car had a flat tire when it was not, sooner or later he will go through this predicament. Yes, there is a quick excuse which saves him from embarrassment, but the trouble becomes double in time. Karma you may call it, but lies are like that. Not that am an expert. Just observing .

To say that it is possible not to lie is a lie. Lying , just like honesty is a selective thing. Mind you, at times, even when friends ask how i am , i would say am OK or life's good but i know that 's not really the case. It may sound more of a pretension than willful lying but when truth is not told, i think it's still deemed as a lie but i would not care in that case if it will mean not giving in to some sort of depression.

Pretension, camouflage or pretext constitute lying. It is self-seeking. Nothing more, nothing less. I guess our minds have been so conditioned on this "evil thing" but failed to look also at the animal kingdom where everyone survives with a little or more cloaking of intentions.

Well, its funny about a city whose people are born without the 'lying' option ... so imagine how their life could be lol
They are so frank and so telling the truth about every single issue until someone by mistake 'had' to invent a lie to get out of certain predicament ... he was the inventor of lying and all the comic situations evlove outta this in relation.

I think Human nature is not inherently good or evil... but it is left up to the person to perceive the situations that they are put in and decide for themselves which path they follow.

as for lying i think of it as a nasty habit and that it is a choice...not so much as "our nature". It is a decision.. at most an option not so much an instinct.

Sounds to me we were born neutral ... like given choices (either good or evil) so can you tell me, why the inclination is mostly hitting the evil side greatly?!
