Worth or Value could be tested by time if the one you are trying to evaluate his/her worth is a bit of conservative or mysterious - so the time is the answer to determine if he is worth your friendship or not ...

Some other folks are quick to be apprehended or read ... like some books could tell it all from their titles.

'How would I find value in someone?' ... can I say? in finding what's worth in me. It goes like .. why do we always stay in the corner of 'expectation'? Why can't we initiate and then evaluate ... I can't wait for love and care unless I offer this gladly first then ... if the other side is not responding then for sure there must be something wrong.

We have to put into consideration our own experiences in realizing how characters and personalities vary around us and how certain situations impose on us certain actions ... damn, its so complicated - at least for me thou I start everything with the notion of simplicity.

Libra.

I firmly believe all people have an equal right to a place in the world, be ye black, white, or green with purple stripes. Possibly even Vegetarians. Be ye Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Atheist or Agnostic. (How long would I last in the middle east?)

Did you mean how do we assess someone's worth or value to you in particular, ie based on possible choice as friend or not?

generally yes. but there are people who opt to use others who they find are valuable to their own interest. in my culture, most people love to pick influential figures to stand sponsors to their weddings, baptismal and other affairs and others would simply join an association to serve their motives. I was once approached by a former office mate who was mostly resented by the entire office because of his vanity and pride. He seemed nice or so i thought, me thinking that he was merely misunderstood. I obliged to his request when he asked for help that i write a love letter for his love target, a co-worker. It wasn't a hard thing to do so after series of love notes and affectionate display tips, he won her over. To summarize this tragic story, they got married without me being invited even to the reception, worse, not even a thank you gesture came from him. How is that for an ingratitude?

I think recognising the value and worth of someone you would like as a true friend usually takes a very long time. My very closest friends are few but we have known each other now for between fifty and twenty years. Our genuine friendship is based on the sharing of so much of each other's lives, even though as time has gone on we are living in different countries. They know me so well and I them that nothing is hidden and we can pick up our friendship even if we haven't actually been together for ages. They are people I can share happy reminiscent history with and also are close enough for us to share sorrow.

I gladly make new friends and enjoy their socialising and their company, but it takes me a very long time and I have to be sure I truly like and can respect their way of thinking before I will share important or personal thoughts with them.

I treat the forum far more openly than most people face to face. Because we all start off anonymously that makes it easy to be honest and also very forthright and over time to know who's company you truly enjoy.
