If you Believe
God
Gives Us
Each a Gift.

Then you
Will Know
Mine Is
From Him.

I Did not Go
To School
As Others Did.

I Did not Go
To High School
To Reach
The Grades
I Should.

I Heard
The Call
Answered
Faith.

My Life
Was
Not
My Own.

When
I Was Young,
I Had
To Take
The Path
That was
Given Me.

No Parents
But an Orphan's
Home.

For
Seventeen Years
I Walked
The Way.

Then The Army
Came To Me.

It Was A Way
To Set Me Free.

Little Did I Know,

The Cost
It Would Take.

It Led Me
To Nam,
Where
I was
Out of Place.

Through The War,
I Tried My Best.

Faith Was Shaken
By The Test.

Then I Came Upon
A Mine.

I Kept My Legs
And My Mind.

When I Found
I Could not Walk,
I Cried Out
To My God.

I Called Upon
His Name To Help.

My Faith
Was not With me.

The Walk
Would not Be Easy.
Though
I Have Wheels Today.

Now Through
My Writings,
I Found
He Is At My Door.

For When
I Reach Heaven.
All The Sorrows
Will Be Gone.

I Am Finding,
He Has Given Me
His Heart.

Blessed Me
With A Purpose.

Poets write to let out,
The emotions crying for release,
To bleed their hearts,
In more colours than red,
Luckily the nugget still shine,
After the birth pangs,
The fiery bloom,
Wipe the blood and tears.

This is the way that autumn came to the trees:
it stripped them down to the skin,
left their ebony bodies naked.
It shook out their hearts, the yellow leaves,
scattered them over the ground.
Anyone could trample them out of shape
undisturbed by a single moan of protest.

The birds that herald dreams
were exiled from their song,
each voice torn out of its throat.
They dropped into the dust
even before the hunter strung his bow.

Oh, God of May have mercy.
Bless these withered bodies
with the passion of your resurrection;
make their dead veins flow with blood again.

Give some tree the gift of green again.
Let one bird sing

A Stairway To God.
