I have been trying to find the original expression (I seem to remember this from my schooldays) about fools and horses as the only beings having the privilege to be candid to kings/princes and go unpunished.
So far, I haven’t been able to find anything that even remotely resembles this. The only search results I get are references to the famous BBC-sitcom.

Am I completely mistaken then?

I would love to hear from you if anything might come up.
Thanks.

An old Cockney saying implying that if you're smart you'll find a way of making a living without resorting to hard graft.

Also a very obscure saying, "why do only fools and horses work? (for a living)", which had its origins in 19th century American vaudeville.

From 1981 to 2003, there was a popular BBC show called "Only Fools and Horses."
