Let grace and goodness be the principal loadstone...
Should be lodestone, the magnetised rock which was the earliest compass.
Unless Dryden actually did write 'loadstone', in which case he was wrong.

An excellent point.
However, some research reveals that it was spelled loadstone and has now become lodestone as a more modern spelling.

I did wonder about the etymology. Don't you just love words, where they came from and what you can do with them?
