For me, I would say the entire Harry Potter series. Although that could just be fandom from age eight with that answer, but it's still that way and it shall remain so until I find a better series (hasn't happened yet and probably will never). 8)

has anyone been on my post about pollthepeople(dot)com?
that site might be quite helpful for advice on books to read! - although much of it is quite pop-orientated...
in response to nigel's comments, one good thing about the site is that when you enter what you have read, and liked, it matches you to other users with similar choices so u can get more informed advice about what u may like to read - users often write short reviews too which is helpful

my reccomendations:
Lolita (nabokov)
Frankenstein (shelley)
Dorian Gray (wilde)
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (carroll)
Madame Bovary (flaubert)

also love:
A Passage to India (foster)
The House in Paris (bowen)
Good Morning, Midnight (rhys)
Heart of Darkness (conrad)

I must say Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
That's one fascinating book about eternal love, passion and hatred.
The bes book ever, in my opinion.
