This is my current hobby, so I thought I'd share:
My money is on Lehman.
Spreading the panic since Summer '07,
FAQ.

Most market analysts state that the current panic has reached its zenith and those who have a stake in the market don't want a panic. In the end, who knows? I have a retirement fund which is based on Standard and Poors, so I am hoping that the "long-term" wisdom analysis vis-à-vis the market is, in fact "wisdom"... so I'm just holding on to my stocks and crossing my fingers...

Most analysts weren't predicted the fall of Bear Stearns a couple of weeks ago...

Well, the stock market and the economy are both quite complex. It's always easy to analyze the past, but not so easy to predict the future.

True but both Northern Rock and Bear Stearns where relatively sirprising. It only takes panic to start and somewhere else may well fall. I would guess at it being a European bank (not swiss obviously and I don't think it will be another UK bank)

It appears that you all are correct about Lehman. My question is: how bad is this going to get? Is America experiencing a financial meltdown?

Quote: full story Greenspan: This is The Worse Economy I've Ever Seen
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan offered a woeful outlook of America's economic situation on Sunday, saying the crisis with the country's financial institutions was as dire as he had ever seen in his long career, and predicting that one or more of those institutions would likely collapse in the near future. "Oh, by far," Greenspan said, when asked if the situation was the worst he had seen in his career. "There's no question that this is in the process of outstripping anything I've seen and it still is not resolved and still has a way to go and, indeed, it will continue to be a corrosive force until the price of homes in the United States stabilizes. That will induce a series of events around the globe which will stabilize the system."

Yeah, this is all the Illuminati's fault. Or maybe the Mayans, possibly the Skull and Bones or the Bilderberg Group, maybe it's the government CONSPIRING AGAINST US *cough*
