mmm i think this means that in life as we all come to know it suffering is inevitable...so its only reasonable to make it count when we do suffer.
suffering can either make u crumble or stronger
i think Mr Hugo is suggesting u choose the later.

if we must suffer then lets suffer to the fullest. a life without suffering has nothinng good. u cant have good if u have no bad. so lets have the worst so the best can be amazing

My interpretation: Suffering is something no one can get away from, some may even claim suffering and life to be synonymous. That being so, we may as well live (or suffer) in the best way possible.

I think he was referring to the will of human resilience.
