Quotations and Literature Forum

I've been here long enough now that I should know, but I don't.... Is the "usergroups" function that appears at the top of the Forums page an active feature? If so, what is it? Also, how are private messages usually used? I keep hoping to find one, but my box seems to remain empty. (I sorta feel like Charlie Brown on Valentine's Day! )

This site has so many neat people and cool features, I don't want to miss out!

I have a vague idea of what a usergroup is, but we don't currently use them.

As for private messages, I just sent you one so you can see how that works.

Taking it from Quest, When will the user group become active as its inactive and I do hope so its been supported by the phpBB Group
for this site too.

I think the Usergroups icon at the top of the Quotations Page Forum is just part of the phpBB 2.0.1 software that mgm uses to offer us this forum. The usergroups feature is not used on this site.

Usergroups are similar to old listservs in the early days of the Internet, but offer more features like chat, message boards, mass e-mail broadcasts (like newsletters) to its members, etc. Because the quotation page offers the option of notifying members by e-mail when someone replies to their posts and offers private messaging, the usergroup feature would probably not add much to our experience in this forum. A usergroup also takes much more work for the moderator to maintain, such as managing subscribe/unsubscribe features.
