I recently read The Ginger Man by J.P Donleavy.
I won't tell you too much about the book incase I ruin it on you.
Anyway, it was banned in Ireland and U.S.A upon its release in 1955 due to it's references to sex and general drink fueled debauchery.
It has me wondering what books does anyone know of that are currently banned or censored and why are they banned?

'Lady Chatterley's Lover' by D.H.Lawrence was banned in many parts of the world. In Bombay, India, a book owner was prosecuted and jailed for trying to sell copies of the book.
'Catcher in the Rye' had been banned for some 20 year period in the US. Ironically, it was the same period in which it was most read in the US.

Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence was also banned when it was first published, but I do not know of any books that are banned as of today.

Tropic of Cancer was banned in the United States, but copies could be bought at a high price illegally.
I recall when The Catcher in the Rye was banned, but when I was in high school it was recommended reading for high school students. Back in the early 1960's, that was deplorable.

Catcher in the rye was banned in the US... lol that was a good book but I can't think of a reason for banning it.

The reason it was banned becasue it was said to contain anti-Christain sentiment, and becasue it was beleived to be profrane, and vulagar, and refrerenced suicide.

i did a presentation abt this once..mm i can rem. a few books like
The Satanic Verses,
The Davinci Code,
Roots (when African Americans were held slaves in the US),
there's a book in Arabic called Sharq il Motawaset (east of the meditarranean) it talks abt politics nd hw political prisoners were tortured, The Chocolate War for sexual content
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (promoted homosexuality)
i think censorship is pointless cuz there's always gon be a way to ge around it!

That is correct, Romeo. Another one that caused a furor was The Passover Plot, but it was published in the United States.
My online Russian friend said Dr. Zhivago by Pasternak was banned in the 1960's, as was many American authored books. He just finished one by Hemingway.
