Ive been trying to find a good book to read but most cant keep my attention long enough for me to get interested in it. Any suggestions?

Well what do you like to read? biographys? science fiction? what?

A book will not listen nor understand you like a true friend but i suggest you get one that 'll make you listen and understand what you're going thru right now.

John, if you like science fiction and/or fantasy, look for anything by Terry Pratchett, Piers Anthony, Douglas Adams, Terry Brooks (for something a little, darker)

A really amazing and rivoting book is The Magus by John Fowles, it keeps you gussing the whole time, and really kept me on the edge of my seat. It was brilliant I thought

I have learned from years of doing absolutely nothing but read that there are two kinds of writers - persons who specifically write for others, and persons who specifically write for themselves. The latter might sound a bit selfish and the former may sound like a conventionalist but truly it's a matter of pleasure. I find pleasure in entertaining myself and in that regaurd I write for myself; in other words I'm a very dull writer and very few enjoy what I write. From what you have said, you need a novel that "keeps your attention", which means you need a coventionalist author who seeks the delight of entertaining others, in which I would go with Dan Brown and read "The Da Vinci Code". It keeps you at the edge of your seat for the first one hundred pages - after that I'd suggest just go to cliff notes and get the summary there. But the first hundred pages are truly entertaining.

Punch yourself for having the attention span of a ferret,give up and work in manaul labor,duh. Its the only way.

you know, ferrets actually have pretty long attention spans, when they want to. they just choose not to.

Based on personal observation, they are persistant little buggers and i'm pretty sure that you need to have an attention span to be persistant.

I like the suggestion to go to the library and browse books. I'll add to that; go to amazon.com and read excerpts. You're bound to find something that stirs your interest.

And if you lose interest, you could always buy yourself a ferret (with all the money saved by not buying books of course) and a potato and watch the fun instead.

You could try something by Bukowski, his books are generally shorter (around 200 pages) and pretty entertaining, or you could grab a collection of short stories in which case I would advise you to check out a J. G. Ballard collection, or Wallace's "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men". If you haven't read "Catch-22" yet, While it is longer, most people find it entertaining enough to hold their attention to the end.
