Peace is always a pursuit of religions. We need peace of mind to go on living in this troubled world. But composure is not an inborn tendency, and all may panic over something. How to achieve composure?

To attain the needed composure of mind is as simple as possible but life burdens and our permenant worries blind us even to think peacefully to reach to that tranquille moment of "Composure".

One must realize first how crucial predicament the world is passing by these days, this is being reflected on his society and consequently on him as being a vital member in this community.

Peace is only used as a terminology now not being sought as a deed. If only we are convinced to apply peace of mind, ideas, actions, feelings ...etc in very step we take in life ... we surely would reach the needed "Composure of mind".

Peace is not the way, and conflicts exist in all aspects of earthly life: war, quarrels, disputes, reforms, unemployment, evil effects of PC games and porn materials, strangely empty spiritual life, desires for money and other possessions, the inherent impulse of surpassing others, fame and wealth, and power, and fatal feeling of loneliness.... Yes, we need to apply peace as a way to solve conflicts, and in this sense, peace is the way. But when people are sieged and overwhelmed by all the tumults of the world, where should we turn for peace? Peace is not readily available in our heart or mind. We need to cultivate it. It is a quality to be built up.

For me, peace is being at ease with yourself and feeling fulfilled.

There is an ancient Chinese saying, "He is brave who won't change his facial expression facing the collapse of Mount Tai." 泰山崩于前而面不改色. Mount Tai is culturally-connoted mountain in East China, where monarches in feudal China ascended and held sacrificial rites to the Heaven. I believe those who can remain cool-minded amidst great disaster, seeking solutions rather than excuses, are really brave, and powerful spiritually.

Oscar Wilde has said that 'Nothing is so aggravating as calmness.' and as strange as it may seem, I wouldn't want to achieve inner peace. Yes it might be great to deal with everything in the best manner and achieve inner tranquility but think of all you might loose. Not going through sadness, excessive happiness, anxiousness, mistakes and not doing silly things you'll probably regret a second later means not living! All the poets, writers and philosophers have had a troubled life. Charles Dickens had an unhappy marriage and a stressful childhood, Ted Hughes was considered by some the reason his wife commited suicide and even Socrates was known to be a drunkard and a very bad spouse. All of these people had problems, they went through anxieties and that is probably what inspired their work. Being completely peaceful is almost the same as being dead.

I really cannot agree with iron-butterfly. The great people you cited did not choose to have a troubled life. They just made a virtue out of necessity by struggling to get their life under control. Through what today's people regarded as great achievements, they fought against the great odds of life and destiny. An ordinary social member wants to live in peace, expressing their aggression and violent impulses in contests, marshal arts, sports and even competition at work etc. Peace does not mean death; it is an idealized state of stable development in harmony.
