BTW, this one is in our database too, but it's probably apocryphal - I don't think anyone has verified that Gandhi said it.

I could swear that I saw this attributed to Oscar Wilde in response to a query as to the Civilization of the United States. I can't find that reference again. Instead, I find the Gandhi quote, if it is a quote, in reference to Western Civilization. Here, refers to '''modern civilization.'''
