I see that John Lennon is quoted as being the author of the phrase "life is what happens whilst you are busy making other plans". I felt sure that he "borrowed" this from an American female author, whose name I do not know. Can anyone help?

It is attributed to Betty Talmadge, divorced wife of Senator Herman Talmadge.

It has also been attributed to Thomas LaMance, Margaret Millar and others.

The provenance is uncertain.
