Hello everyone.

I just joined because I am searching for a specific political quote and have had no luck finding it.

Either during his campaign or early in his presidency, Barack Obama quoted Santayana's famous words "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." He then altered the quote to fit his purpose and in doing so changed the meaning.

I'm a big proponent of 'doing it yourself,' and I have been trying for days to find this. Unfortunately, any Google search for Obama or Santayana turn up 10 million haystacks, but no needles. I have done many Ctrl-F searches of .pdf transcripts of his speeches, but thus far all of my efforts have been fruitless. I would be questioning the existence of the quote by now if I hadn't heard it with my own ears, but at this point my only recourse seems to be asking others for help.
