A man can not choose when he dies, but the man can choose if to die with courage and honor, or humility and fear. Then man then fights for death with courage in his heart or fear in his eyes.

I disagree.
I can choose when I'll die. I can choose sooner or later.
Your saying sounds like a personal one. If you can convince me that
I don't have a say in when I'll die, then I'll take back my disagreement.

Life and love are life and love,
a bunch of violets is a bunch of
violets, and to drag in the idea of a
point is to ruin everything. Live and
let live, love and let love, flower and
fade, and follow the natural curve,
which flows on, pointless.
~D.H. Lawrence~

Our life is frittered
away by detail...
Simplify, simplify.
~Thoreau~

A monk asked Chou-chou,
"If a poor man comes, what
should one give him?"
"He lacks nothing,"
answered the Master.

After we came out of the church, we stood talking for some time
together of Bishop Berkeley's ingenious sophistry to prove the
non-existence of matter, and that everything in the universe is
merely ideal. I observed that though we are satisfied his doctrine
is not true, it is impossible to refute it. I shall never forget the
alacrity with which Johnson answered, striking his foot with mighty
force against a large stone, "I refute it thus!"
~Boswell, Life of Samuel Johnson~

An archery student says to the Zen Master "I'm afraid I don't
understand anything more at all, even the simplest things have got
in a muddle. Is it 'I' who draws the bow, or is it the bow that
draws me?... Do 'I' hit the goal or does the goal hit me?... Bow,
arrow, goal and ego, all melt into one another, so that I can no
longer separate them. And even the need to separate has gone.
For as soon as I take the bow and shoot, everything becomes so clear
and straightforward and ridiculously simple..."
"Now at last," the Master broke in, "the bow-string has cut right through
you."
~Zen story~

"There is no spoon"
~The Matrix~

Anajo asked
Quote:
And I wonder. How does one enter the zone of some Zen sense of being when you're some hungry child in some war-torn country?

A child knows hunger and seeks food. A child sees war and seeks peace.
An adult is full and is still hungry. An adult sees war and wants vengeance.

I went for a walk... but I didn't find myself.
Although I did see a map in the mall last week that said "You are here."

If you went walking and didn't meet yourself, you stopped walking too soon.

I went for a walk, and found myself everywhere.
I met myself... sometimes I was small, sometimes infinite,
And now I can't escape from myself. I am me, they are me, It is me.
I like me. I don't like me. I like you. I don't like you.
I'm so sure, I'm not sure. It doesn't matter now, and that's all that matters. I am no longer bothered... and that bothers me.
