I'm having a little trouble understanding... is the USA's missle defense system entirely reliant on there being a laser-equipped airplane directly in front of a missle? As soon as I get a scanner, I'll put on my adaptation to the space laser missle defense system.

I'm glad the scheme won't work as it would otherwise give America too much power (if America could manage to agree to not do this in the cold war times it can certainly keep that going now).
From a scientific point of view there are 2 ways to stop this working:
1. Make the missile spin (The heat will be dissapted equally around the missile meaning the engine won't break which is what it relies on)
2. Polish the missile (Reflecting the Laser meaning it won't over heat).
THerefore this is a good system to protect against countries that can afford ICBMs etc. but can't afford polish.

I'm not sure if making it spin would be good idea.. at least I can't imagine how could one count it so that it can fly directly forward and spin.. you know, friction and stuff but polishing it seems like a good idea though.

Simple system though I'm sure how it works spinning a bullet/missile fast enough makes it go straight (bit like a gyroscope).
Actually making something spin isn't hard as the missile only needs to spin fairly slowly. Lasers beat enemy missile by amking the engine break so to beat this the engine can de dployed behind the payload (which will soak up all the energy from in front) then by spinning it around the nose (so if a missile is coming towards you you will be able to see a center dot but a dot on the edge blurs to appear like a ring.) the exhaust (which is relied on to push the engine forward) is held independantly with good lubrication so it does not spin.

Oh pooh... I lost my drawing. No, if I want to use a scanner I'll have to use the school one, and, erm... well, I'll give that a try, maybe. I'll have to redraw the plan, though.
