Hey guys! I haven't been on in a loong time, but I wanted to ask you guys a question....

Do you think that turning books into mavies is a good thin? Or do you think that we should just leave the books be and let the reader imagine the characters? I know that sometimes when I watch a movie of a book I read that my version of the character completly vanishes and whenever I read that book I think of the movie stars that starred in that film. do you think that this is good or is it bad??

Well, these are TV shows not movies but same idea - Brett, Suchet, Hickson and the people who put on the Holmes, Poirot and Marple shows were and are fantastic in spite of being very different from the stories at times. Haven't seen the new Marples yet.

I believe that most often times when books are made into movies because the movie is expected to be compressed into 2 or 3 hours alot of stuff from the books are omitted. Also movies can't as adequately express things like a person's thoughts. And sometimes the things being left out are important and that's not good. But that's not to say that movie isn't a good movie becuase there have been movies made off books and although these movies omit things they have been quite incredible. I think the Lord of the Rings is one of these. But its probably best to read the book first to get a better understanding to things and then watch the movie.

I think it is a good thing because it means more people get access to it. In a similar vein most music (esp. classical music) sounds consireable worse when not heard live it is still a good thing though that it is recorded so people can listen to it more easily.
