There is a word for sentences that implement themselves. Examples:

"A simile is like a metaphor"
"Omit needless words"

All I am asking for--nay, begging!--is that word. This is driving me nuts! Those of you whose minds voraciously collect trivia know the anguish I am experiencing.

It would be neat as well to have further examples of this word.

Any help?

I know theres a word that explains when you cant think of the word your after. It begins with L, but thats all i can ever remember.

Doesnt help much though.

Is it redundant? I think redundance might be the word you're looking for.

Hmmm, no. "Omit needless words" is an example, and it is not redundant. "Wet water" is redundant, but silly.

Pleonasms are the opposites (antonyms) of oxymora. A pleonasm consists of two concepts (usually two words) that are redundant. It does drive one nuts when we can't think of something doesn't it...

I would say that the question would depend on the methaphor don't you think? if a smile is like a methaphor it would really need something to depend on wheter it is good or bad..
