The third configuration is a fish.
1) Tree
2) Cobra
3) Fish
(What do these configurations represent? )
#4
Unmoved by fear or threat of life-
What mountain stands as flesh and blood?
Forged by strength of mind and body--
What mountain is this which is not stone?

I now have a problem... The riddle said that it was an animal that "Appeared as a fish but had no gills". If that is the case, how could the answer be a fish? And how could a fish have hands as fins, and feet as a tail? Someone please tell me what I am missing!!!

Phantom Delta said;
“The first configuration is in fact a man but it is also a tree”
It seems as though they are all human.
My guess is that the fourth configuration is a mountain

Flametree85 is correct. The fourth configuration is a mountain (and it is also a man like the other configurations).
The riddle now becomes a question of "how" rahter than a question of "what."
How does a man appear as a tree? The answer has already been disclosed in this very forum. The answer can be found in a topic that I posted in 2002. The subject is a four letter word.
1) Tree
2) Cobra
3) Fish
4) Mountain
5) Lion
6) Moon
7) Scorpion
 ?
And who might venture to guess the eighth configuration?

Ummm... which riddle did you just answer? It seems as though you just gave an answer to the first riddle, which has been partially solved already... maybe i'm just tired and missing something....
