If I had $500 billion, it would not be unfair of me to buy each of you a new house EXCEPT for DSW.

Who are you, bloody Op-rah Winfrey? If you had all that why would you buy things for the already fairly affluent? Surely one could find a better use?
The thrust of your question has but one answer, discrimination.

Let's put it this way:
If DSW had $500 billion, it would not be unfair of him to buy each of us a new house EXCEPT for myself.

Go ahead, look at the shallow part of the statement and ignore the point.
By the way, just saw floods are the size of France, leaving 200,000 stranded???

To paraphrase an old dales farmer 'Aye, it's been a bit wet.'
To buy for all but one is discrimination, however one is free to make that choice. The question I would ask is, why that person?
For you Tommy, I would not. A priest would not own property? I would discuss with you some more appropriate use of such a sum.
For me, I've got a house and I quite like it. You may buy me an espresso and give the rest to an educational fund for isolated communities.

Hehe.
Well, a priest can own a few things. They make - what - 10, 15, 20 grand a year, I would guess?
Anyway...
The point of the statement it is: it's my money, I can do whatever I want with it.
It was just a thought that me and my buddy were discussing... what we deserve, what is owed to us, and so forth.
He brought up the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard. Those who were hired earlier in the day were angry at the laborers who were hired later in the day because they all received the same wage. It was "unfair" that those who worked longer received the same as those who didn't work as long.

Because dear boy, you live in a democracy, not a free country.

I'm failing to see your point.
Are you arguing that one cannot do with one's own materials as he pleases based upon a technicality?

No, based on a series of laws and codes placed in effect by those we vote to power. Can you do what you want? Buy heroin if you choose? Slavery? Alcohol at 15 years old?
The list of restrictions placed on the use of one's money is immense.
As a priest, even a 50 cent condom will pose a problem for you won't it?

Indeed, I understand your point of view. I must not be articulating my words very clearly. The specific variables that accompany finances in an American democracy (laws, codes) are details that do not contribute to the purpose of the statement.

Welcome to the world of the annoyingly pedantic. That aside, I take your point and after that performance I wouldn't buy me a house either!
How's out 'Tales from a seminary' developing?
