One person would say, "I don't regret it, because it led me to where I am."
Another might say, "Wow, I REALLY wish that didn't happen."
I believe there many different circumstances that would lead a person to say either of the [aforementioned] justifiably. Some hardships are blessings in disguise. Others... well, sometimes we just do stupid things that weren't to anyone's benefit.
Bittersweet... regret... the sorrow, or grief, or the feeling you wish you could turn back time and do it over again...
Whether the regret is there or not, hindsight itself is beautiful because you live and learn.

In my point of view regret could be hurting if an action is taken without using a good quality of time to think before taking the decision.
I think I am a cautious person ... I take enough time thinking before taking a decision that's why I hardly regret ... sometimes it turns passive; I fall into the circle of hesitation but then ... I feel relieved to whatever I decide later on .. coz I consulted myself, others who care about me and I entrust and thought very well about the matter.
So may be both factors; Time and Thinking are important factors in the process of regretting or not.

Really good point, Libra, but not always possible sometimes quick decision needed or maybe a more impulsive person doesn't stop to think and then you make a decision you may regret.
If you carry it around and fret over it with regret that is unhealthy and pointless because it's too late, it's in the past.
Quote: Decisions are the endless uncertainties of life that we'll not know if theyre right until the very end, so do the best you can and hope its right. Author: Lily Collins
I also remember reading somewhere "Every decision is the right one at the time" and that makes sense to me and should leave no genuine cause for regret.

I agree there too, gumtree, you know most of the famous people who made histories upon different past times and eras undergone these phases either of serene wise contemplating thoughts before taking their decisions or those other hasty characters who took sudden decisions to change the world ...
Both of them previous categories participated in changing the world, writing histories ... turning its pages either to bright good memories or other black detested bloody pages ...
Who will ever forget Hitler, Anwar Al-Saddat, Saddam Hussien, Princess Diana, Ghandi ... etc?!
Finally; I think its better for us to take some decision better than being silent and passive at all. Who knows may be one day with your opinion or decision - you will come to change the world? (hopefully, to a better one)
Libra.

Most people call it regret but how can you regret or detest something that provides you valuable lessons that you would not have learned without such circumstances and consequently give you tremendous influence and realizations? I would argue that for as long as i voluntarily do all things i want to do, regret isn't going to be part of my life.

"Every decision is the right one at the time."
I disagree, not every decision. Some people make the wrong or bad decision. That's the point....

I don't know how to really answer that, except by giving a couple of examples. For instance, I almost flunked high school. I did not apply myself at all. Because of this, I would have had little chance to get into any school, any scholarships, I wasted my parents' money that allowed me to go to high school in the first place, etc. I would consider this to be a bad decision.
Or in another case, my buddy recently got into a car wreck by making dumb driving decisions. He got confused as to whether he should turn left or right. He was in the right lane and began to make that turn, but corrected himself. He turned left from the right lane, and got t-boned. (I was in the car.)
I believe that these are instances in which a decision or a set of decisions can be labeled as wrong or bad because of the effects that they produced.

I might add that these decisions are independent of being considered regretful, or whether hindsight has taught us anything.
Now I know to apply myself.
And now my buddy knows to drive smarter.
This, in my opinion, does not change the nature of the decision.

Isn't hindsight wonderful, but did you have it's benefit at the time you made the decision?

You are correct -- we do not have its benefit. I am saying that there are some decisions one can make without needing hindsight to tell that the decision is wrong or bad. Knowing something is stupid, but doing it anyway.
Do you disagree?
