It's a relationship between two people basically and that's up to the two involved, but once it begins to become serious both have to begin to learn thoroughly about each others cultures. They need to look in depth at the differences and see if there are any that may cause conflict.
Also, if it means one or the other is going to move and live in a new country, with a new culture and with none of their own family near or usual familiar surroundings, language, food etc that is a very hard thing to cope with. People can think they will manage and may do for a while, but can also get terribly homesick later on.
