People kill people for different reasons but are we not our own enemies?

We all have ultimate freedom of choice to kill or not to kill. Sometimes the reason you would choose to do so is to protect others or in self defence. That could be argued as no choice, but if you carry a weapon against that eventuality, that in itself is a choice.
If you argue yourself into reasons to kill for gain or revenge or power then I guess you are your own enemy, because if you have a conscience you are probably going to ruin your own peace of mind for the rest of your life. But people have different values and may believe they can justify killing for such reasons.

Tommy, never say the name.
Gummy, even when done for all the right reasons, and under another's responsibility, conscience is still a good nightmare catalyst.

"Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter. You will meet them doing various things with resolve, but their interest rarely holds because after the other thing ordinary life is as flat as the taste of wine when the taste buds have been burned off your tongue."~Ernest Hemmingway (from 'On the Blue Water' in Esquire, April 1936)
