Without pride in ourselves, how could we ever feel that we were good enough to go after that one person? Courage and strength are only a part of the many things that push us forward in life. There will always be sin. We all have to sin a little to be happy. We would be very boring without it. That word should not even be apart of my vocabulary.

Hubris: I think I should look this word up!

Pride and self belief brings out the best in people. It also brings out the worst. Question is, do you want a society full of people who may as well be on soma the whole time, or do you want a little more excitement, passion and adventure?

Back to definitions again - totally agree with pride that is self esteem, self belief giving someone ability to believe in themselves and be independent and able.

Or the pride that is satisfaction with something well done, such as a craftsman's work.

But why would you want the pride that goes over the top to become self conceit and arrogance ?

Pride is what make you get up in the morning, do a job you don't necessarily want to, quite that job you don't necessarily want to. Without at least some pride you wouldn't achieve, become or try to be the person you are today.
