If you are to live a life without pain and burden, would you consider yourself fortunate? Thanks.

Yes, but that is because I'm not relativist.

I would totally consider myself fortunate. While the pain and suffering has, indeed, forged me into the person I am now, I'd have liked the opportunity to become a different me without the pain.
The only reason people accept their painful pasts is because to do otherwise is to be miserable and unhappy. We need to somehow justify the suffering we endured so we say things like, "I wouldn't be who I am today without those experiences."
Awful things happen, and we need to accept them and move on, but to be given the opportunity to live a life without them would be a priceless gift beyond measure.
Some people live noodle-salad lives.

Some pain and suffering makes the good moments better.

You can't appreciate the highs without the lows.

See, I don't believe that at all.
I'm pretty sure I'd still love my son and daughter with all my heart even if their older brother and sister hadn't died in a fire....

Knowing loss makes me appreciate that which is left more.

But whose highs and lows are we talking about? We see suffering and pain around us all the time, and very little of it actually touches each of us (comparatively), yet we appreciate our gifts more when we see the pain and hardship that all those around us go through.

A very large part of me wants to agree with Mellony, that to live without pain would be ideal, but I figure that pain is inevitable, so we might as well embrace it as noble suffering.

I don't embrace pain, hell no, and I don't need it nor want it nor desire it nor want anything whatsoever to do with it. Pleasure and pain are what they are because they are relative, sure, but relatively speaking there is no doubt at all that I prefer pleasure, hands down, no doubt about it.

And yeah, I know what pain is. Now that I know what it is, I certainly don't need anymore of it to prefer pleasure. You can have your pain if you need it. I can do without it. I'm a hedonist. I love pleasure.

See, my problem is I'm a hater. I've grown up surrounded by rich kids and airheads, and when I was younger I figured that they knew nothing of true suffering and that I did, so I hated them. Now I'm staring to realize that it's me who's never seen any real pain in life, and I kind of want to.
