But then there's a moment like tonight, a profound and transcendent experience, the feeling as if a door has opened, and it's all because of that instrument, that incredible, magical instrument.
-- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider,
I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music. -- George Eliot (1819 - 1880)
After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. -- Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963), "Music at Night", 1931
There is no feeling, except the extremes of fear and grief, that does not find relief in music. -- George Eliot (1819 - 1880), The Mill on the Floss, 1860
Music like religion, unconditionally brings in its train all the moral virtues to the heart it enters, even though that heart is not in the least worthy.
-- Jean Baptiste Montegut
Music is a discipline, and a mistress of order and good manners, she makes the people milder and gentler, more moral and more reasonable.
Martin Luther (1483 - 1546)
My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary. -- Martin Luther

For some I think that it is highly effective. I have a friend who very much so uses music to alter his moods. He's feeling depressed? If he wants to wallow in his melancholy, he selects one type/genre/artist, if he wants to climb out of his funk all he has to do is pop something else in.
On the other hand, I don't think that anything works for everyone.

Music is so many things at once, it is hard to define. Or am I talking about Life, again?

Music acts and gives a soothing effect, it depends on the music played and the kind of situation the person is... but it plays a pivotal role to relax people.

Yes, for example: musical meditation. Thanks to the sound's harmonious vibrations you have a amplified feeling of your body. Meditating with music is more physical, without music more psychic.

Therapy for something physical or mental? If its the former, bullshit. Listening to good music wont cure cancer. If it is the latter then I'd also have to say bullshit. I dont think music can heal a mental scar either.

Dr logic, it can improve your physical aspects as well.. not the cancer or aids things.. say you have headache or body ache... it works the same way a massage would work..

Music eases out the pressure within oneself due to work or personal problems, its how you take music and what kind you listen to. Everyone has a chord and that music should be able to hit the chord with you.
