it´s a terror story from the master of terror H.P. LOvecraft it´s a good one to start reading.

Definitely The His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman.
I read those three books when I was 14 and fell in love with em. The Golden Compass, The Amber Spyglass All of them great. Definitely one of my favorite series

I would suggest Fannie Flagg's Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man--it is pretty funny

Also-Anything by
Louise Erdrich--She writes Native American Literature
or Amy Tan-- Chinese American Literature
or Langston Hughes--African American Poerty
