Im almost positive this is famous literature but cant remember the name and what is was, a book or a play. I saw it in movie probably over 20 years ago on tv. If anyone can help me find the name so i can look it up i would greatly appreciate it.
The plot is basically
A prince and his best friend while young and the prince has many lady friends he visits while the friend is waiting for him. the prince becomes king and is having problems with the church. So he has his friend become head of the church knowing his friend will do what he says. This way he will have control of both church and government. However his friend is taken by the religion and refuses to follow his friend the kings rule. the king then has him killed.
Since I know quite a few literature teachers I will take your description of the story to one of them, and see if I can figure it out. The story sounds familiar, but I just can't place it. I'll get back to you on it.

Sorry that it took me so long to reply back, but I am still searching for this story and I am having no luck. I will keep looking and asking questions though. Let you know soon if I find it.
