How is our context of todays life going to be able to produce meanings we make from 'The Collector' - John Fowles?.. As it was written in the 60's, again, how is out context able to esablish meanings?

Ok...I've read Fowles but not The Collector. This is a stupid ass question...maybe I misread it. Authors - Especially Notable authors such as Fowles - can relate to many generations. Oh Shakespeare is OUT OF CONTEXT...you know what I mean? Fowles' the Magus is one of my favorite books. I being a 20 year old boy living in the 21st century absolutely felt an emotional connection with his words...he gives a plot level, a hidden level, universal level, cosmic level. His cosmic level writing is out there, I've said it before and I'll say it again...smoke a doober and check it out. Ha anyways...you're gay

The Collector was made into a movie with Alan Bates. I can't
recall what the actress' name was who played the woman.
At the time, I was shocked by the movie, but thought it
was excellent.

Yes, I thought much the same thing about the movie - I admired it a good deal, but even so I wouldn't want to see it again in a hurry. It wasn't Alan Bates though, it starred Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar.
