Webbratz, I agree. Nothing wrong with being independent about your choice of books. You may miss some good ones but the Bailey School ones were no great loss. There are plenty more out there that aren't mainstream.

A lot of friends liked Lord of the Rings and I thought I would after the Hobbit but the adventures wore me down.

THe problem with me of the series of unfortunate events is that they are exactly what they say there is no proper plot (A plot is not just things happen they need to build up) but then again I like a lot of the classics so I'm used to not much happening but there being a huge plot. I'm not sure if this makes sense.

Did you guys read any of the Dan Brown books? Deception Point, The Da Vinci Code, Digital Fortress, Angels and Demons.
Now there's a plot. Lots of suspense and possiblities I couldn't even predict. Everything caught me by surprise.
I definately agree with sigfried about the plot stuff.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Unfortuate... is stupid (to be so blunt). After the Bailey School kids titles I thought there would never be a book/series with a lamer name. I stand corrected.

That's what I love about these forum things. There's always someone out there who will agree with you. Or someone who will complement you and make you feel apprieciated. Sorry about the spelling.

Farsix - yeah the Hobbit was better than the trilogy. I hated how long it took them to describe scenes. There was way too much walking to Mordor, it got monotonous.

Thanks,
Webbratz

Sorry hope I haven't spoilt the others.
Which books?
To be fair to him Digital Fortress is a little diffrent and actually shows signs of proper research.

About Disney and their movies: yes, they change and "fluff" a lot of things, but really, if you think about it, most of their fairy tale movies are based off of "Grimms Fairy Tales", and that's really where the stories lost their flavor. Just saying.

Sigfried,

I read Digital Fortress and Angels and Demons. I'm trying to get a hold of the Da Vinci Code and Deception Point.

So you didn't really like them? Any reason other than the same plot stuff?
But they were good plots with unpredictable twists, in my opinion from reading those 2. I thought they were really good but I don't have a lot to compare them too. Some books are just... a bit much for someone my age (just 14 and grade eight) or not appealing to me.
If you didn't like the Dan Brown stuff what do you like/recommend?

I did like the Dan Brown books but by the time I was reading the third one it became increadibly obvious what would happen. I wish he hadn't pretended to have done accurate research though the amount of people he fooled it is actually quite depressing.

Mr. American by Geogre Fraser is very good. As is the Hitchhikers series by douglas adams (though not as good as the Radio) When I was 14 I read a lot of Pratchett stuff (still do a bit).

I love you. I have read all four books also and I completly agree with you. At school I had an arguement with me against 6 people. I am so glad someone else has the intelligence to see the simple underlining pattern.

Back to the subject. I really think that Red Dragon the book was made into two good movies (Manhunter and Red Dragon). Though niether are good as Silence of the Lambs I think that Manhunter is farly decent and my friend and I both think that Red Dragon is very good for a scary movie.

I still think they're good.
I'm not very good at this critical analyzing stuff.
I just love reading, even if I'm only lost for a moment before I figure out what's going to happen.
I guess I'm just too stupid to figure this stuff out...

At the risk of sounding like an agony aunt – Please don’t call yourself stupid. Critical analysis of writing of any kind is so subjective. Think of all the now famous writers that had little success in their own time. You are NOT wrong or stupid just because you see these books differently. Something about them communicates something to you that you enjoy –and that’s a good thing! There are many reasons why it may not do the same for some other people – differences in taste, life experiences, beliefs, culture etc.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
