Point well made. I could not agree more, although if that were the case, I would like to see what Ralph would go through once he returns. If the whole thing were "swept under the rug," how would he deal with knowing the truth about the island, the loss of innocence? That would make for a nice sequel.

Callowayhorn- I'm not sure a sequal would work, the underlying political representations of Ralph (and the conch) as democratic models, compared with Jack's anarchistic lifestyle, wouldn't survive in the real world.

makaveli471- Do tell me what you think about Yevgeny Zamyatin's 'We,' I've also ordered it to use as part of my English coursework as a reference to the dystopian novels, '1984' and 'Brave New World.' For enjoyment's sake I'd really suggest that you read Ayn Rand's 'The Fountainhead' if you haven't already, as it acts as a nice prelude to the 'fifth concerto.'

Joseph- Anna Karenina is excellent literature, it's quite obviously a long read but the characters are fascinating and it provides a rich insight into the class of Russian aristocrats.
