In my opinion, Richard Paul Russo's "Unto Leviathan" should be classed as a classic. Characterisation, theme, plot, structure.... all perfect. Best science fiction book I have read. I don't suppose I'll read a better one.
I do expect, with my disagreeing on it, that Harry Potter will be a classic. I read the first half of "Philosopher's Stone" and was extremely bored. I found no interest at all in Rowling's writing and her characters.
It will, however, be fascinating to find out what will be deemed as classics.
