Well Omar Khayyam was one of the finest writers of the Arab World, A great thinker. He was an outstanding mathematician, philsopher and astronomer too.He was totally outstanding. He gave meaning to his name and fiddled with idea's as Below:

"Khayyam, who stitched the tents of science,
Has fallen in grief's furnace and been suddenly burned,
The shears of Fate have cut the tent ropes of his life,
And the broker of Hope has sold him for nothing!"
--Khayyam

Also in Rubaiyat:-

"Indeed, the Idols I have loved so long
Have done my Credit in Men's Eye much Wrong:
Have drowned my Honour in a shallow cup,
And sold my reputation for a Song."
--Khayyam

Can't figure it out,Why People Talk so less about him. :?:

"The caravan of life shall always pass
Beware that is fresh as sweet young grass
Let’s not worry about what tomorrow will amass
Fill my cup again, this night will pass, alas."
--Omar Khayyam

One more site i just found on him.

www-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Khayyam.html

http://www.okonlife.com

Below from one of the sites:-

Literal:

The palace where Jamshid held his cup
The doe and the fox now rest and sup
Bahram who hunted game non-stop
Was hunted by death when his time was up.

Meaning:

The palace where Arthur sought the Grail
Is the resting home of the weak and frail
And the knight who challenged death on its trail
On the ocean of death forward must sail
Chasing the temporal is to no avail
As soon as you go through death’s dark veil.

"Before the phantom of False morning died,
Methought a Voice within the Tavern cried,
"When all the Temple is prepared within,
Why nods the drowsy Worshipper outside?"

By Omar Khayyam

Written 1120 A.C.E.

Well I can answer one question write now.... The reason its in English is that the Arabs were very found of literature, They treasured it more then anyone during those times, The most proud they were was Arabic and Persian was later developed in Asia which is mixture of Sanskirt and Arabic... I'll search and reply respectively...
:)
