I’ve been rolling on this shallow river
For nothing more than idle pleasure.
It is here I drink my lightest water.
It is here I recover cherished leisure.
The sun has warmed my muscled shoulders.
A beer has chilled my residual temper.
I’ve fished a spell and drank a brew--
I’ve hooked a small mouth bass or two.
My heart is like the butterfly--
My buzz is like the honeybee.
My thoughts are light as maple leaves--
My spirit drifts with summer’s breeze.
I hear the flutter of some wings--
I see the flight of the dove.
A fish darts into a pool--
A snake slithers beneath the rocks.
I pop the top of another beer--
Ode to a can of Coors!
It is the taste of mountain waters,
That I toast to life and tranquil rivers.
