What are the dollar amounts under the names after a horse race for? When a horse race is over and under 1st place it will have 3 dollar amounts, 2nd will have 2, and 3rd will have 1... what do those numbers mean? Like I made a bet yesterday and under the 1st place horse i think the numbers were $14.40, $6.60, and $3.20... just not sure what those mean. Any help?

Hi,
I am no expert on the US tote system but the following I think I know; the first sum in dollars represent your winnings to an even stake. (I think in the US this is 2 dollars, it may be 1 dollar). This is the WIN return.
The second sum is your return if you bet PLACE, this means that for your stake you get a return of the amount shown if your horse finishes 1st or 2nd.
The third sum is your return if your bet has been placed as SHOW. You receive that amount for the $2 stake if your horse is 1st 2nd or 3rd.
I hope this helps.
