Well it sounds to me as if he is simply trying to say that in the end communisim and capitialism are no different, they might have different systems, but the result is the same ultimately, that there is not really equality in communisim

The quote itself is flawed. In capitalism, man exploits man. This is true. But in Communism the GOVERNMENT exploits man. There is a BIG difference there. That is the difference that made Americans KILL communists not too long ago. On a personal note, most of my collage professors admit to being socialist, and the ones who don't admit it are at least communist. They preach it to their students and it makes me sad. :'(

Are not governments made up of men?

Are you not made of organs? of cells? of molecules and atoms? what we are made of does not determine what we are. The government is made of men, that does not mean it IS a man. (by man i mean man kind/the human race. This is meant to include women too, I just say "man" because that is what the quote said)

Of course a government is an element of mankind. Whether it is communist or capitalist, military or democratic, it is merely a collection of men who, between them, whether by fair or unfair means, make decisions that affect and quite often exploit their fellow man.
The quote is telling you that both forms of government are men exploiting men.

Another case of a person starting a topic and then disappearing...
Over on Quoteland I have this quotation also listed as being a simple proverb and also attributed to Galbraith. I'll look into it some more later.
20000leagues " wanted to no more quotes on the subject" so here are some:
Quote: Communism didn't fall. It was pushed. -George Herbert Walker Bush, July 2, 1992 I was a man who was lucky enough to have discovered a political theory, a man who was caught up in the whirlpool of Cuba's political crisis...; discovering Marxism...was like finding a map in the forest. -Fidel Castro, Speech, Chile, November 18, 1971 I will not pretend that if I had to choose between communism and Nazism I would choose communism. -Sir Winston Churchill Our power does not know liberty or justice. It is established on the destruction of the individual will. -Lenin (Vladimir Ulyanov) Communists have become bureaucrats. If anything will destroy us, it is this. -Lenin (Vladimir Ulyanov), 1922 Communism is the opiate of the intellectuals [with] no cure except as a guillotine might be called a cure for dandruff. -Clare Boothe Luce, "Newsweek", January 25, 1955 Hypostatized into a ritual pattern, Marxian theory becomes ideology. But its content and function distinguish it from classical forms of ideology; it is not false consciousness, but a rather consciousness of falsehood, a falsehood which is corrected in the context of the higher truth represented by the objective historical interest. -Herbert Marcuse, Soviet Marxism, Pelican Books (1971), London, (On Soviet Marxism), 1958: 77-78 "Communism, like any other revealed religion, is largely made up of prophecies." -H. L. Mencken To the believer Marxism presents, first, a system of ultimate ends that embody the meaning of life and are absolute standards by which to judge events and actions... -Joseph Schumpeter, Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy [ch. 1], 1942 "Communism is the corruption of a dream of justice." -Adlai Stevenson The Communists claim that they liberated the Russian people. Yet, when the Great Patriotic War began, these same Russians greeted their foreign invaders with tears, with flowers and with enthusiastic hospitality. What can have brought them to the point at which they would greet even Hitler as their saviour and liberator? -Viktor Suvorov, Inside the Soviet Army "All that Communism needs to make it successful is someone to feed and clothe it." -'Columbia Record'
Here's a discussion topic:
I notice that I have quotations on Marxism and Communism mixed together. Are they the same?

Quote: Our power does not know liberty or justice. It is established on the destruction of the individual will. -Lenin (Vladimir Ulyanov What a frank admission - this helped me relate to Quote: I will not pretend that if I had to choose between communism and Nazism I would choose communism. -Sir Winston Churchill
which surprised me on first reading.
Good challenge, Thenostromo, not one I would dare take on!
I had always assumed Marxism was the ideal theory and Communism the flawed practice, which is very simplistic. It will be interesting to hear what others have to say, especially those who may have lived under a communist government.
