Ok, it's been a while since I've done this but here we go: It sounds like it could be from a fantasy book-Dragon Lance or something like that. DaVinci said "Pity the student who does not surpass the master." If you look on Google you'll find many things from fantasy books

I think its something like that he doesn't learn anything, or become productive, but it is familiar, and I know I'll make myself crazy over it.
