Jacque Plante is also known for:
The smooth, solid mask [marketed during the '60 to '70s] was referred to as the Jacque Plante style...Plante, the Montreal goaltender, is generally acknowledged as the first modern goalie to wear a mask. He had been developing a mask when he took yet another puck to the face in an early November 1959 game against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Plante went to the locker room for repairs and returned wearing the fiberglass mask he had fashioned for himself.

Jacques had just set out on the path that would lead him to the National Hockey League. Instinctively, he understood that to get ahead in life, one had to be quick on the uptake, to be the right person in the right place at the right time. A goaltender must be more aware of this than anyone else; he should make it his motto. Jacques had just taken advantage of his first big break.
