What Imam Ali (as) is saying is that when a person doubts, the following 4 qualities will be prevalent.

*Gets out dictionary to find out what vacillation means.*
Ok, I'm going to make this easy for everyone.
Doubt has four divisions: disputation (pretty easy one, but this means "a problem" from what I gather.), distrust (obvious), vacillation (first time I've ever encountered this word. It means the inability to make a decision, or take a stance.), and surrender.
I completely agree with Imam, but I don't know what kind of response he honestly wanted from saying that. It is basically just pointing out the obvious and putting it in words. Maybe he just wanted an excuse to say Vacillation...lol.
I like your persistence in posting Imam's quotes though Sarah, please keep it up!

I disagree. Doubting does probablt entail a degree of distrust by I would be less sure of the others.

Sihvyl,
The Imam's quotes are originally in Arabic. Some translator liked the word vacillation, I guess

I see. I think I like it too. It just sounds so silly. Vacillation...everytime I say it, it reminds me of "vacuuming" for some reason.
You should post the quotes in their orignal arabic form and in english if thats possible. That would be really cool, and I know there's atleast a few people here that could read it.
