I know nothing about poetry, I'm a no-talent poet,
The form and the schemes mean nothing to me,
And I'm here to say I want everyone to know it.
It's all just about writing, it seems to me.
If I start caring too much about the rhythm and rhyme,
The words wouldn't happen and I'd be stuck all the time.
All these thoughts that go 'round in my head
And with no one to hear any words that I've said,
I stay up late and avoid going to bed,
The computer lights up my room, and so instead
Of eating I write words on a monitor screen.
I mostly don't know what I'm doing, or so it would seem.
But I put them together so they mean something to me
And I share with the world, and sit back and see
If I've touched someone with any of the words that I say.
Maybe someone else has grown up all alone,
And my words might have been put in just the right way.
Or maybe someone reading is from a "broken" home,
And they're hurting so bad,
Their life is so sad,
They may not even care if they live through one more day.
When my heart is feeling like it is ripping apart,
And my body is like a shell that has lost its soul,
My writing has helped me to focus on making a new start,
And to see that a shattered life can again become whole.
Because I know what it's like to want to give up and die,
About how life can lose meaning, and love lose its feeling.
I've written poems about it, and when I read them I cry,
The tears are important, they begin the process of healing.
For if I give up on today, there is still always tomorrow,
And my writing will always help me to get through it,
So I'll keep writing about pain, and joy, and sorrow,
And I'll keep caring less about form and how I do it.
I believe the writer is a giver of imagination and thought,
The reader receives it, but does not take it as a loan.
Their reward can be greater than anything that can be bought,
For they can use it, build on it, and in the end, make it their own.

Oh My! Where to start....

I know that the opinion of a "mere child" like me... won't matter, but I just had to add in exactly what I think....

Firstly, Nostromo, I thank you so much for posting that. I've read it several times now, and each time, I find it more interesting, intriguing and inspiring.


Ahhh, there are no better words for me to sum up my personal "poetic talent". harhar.

I loved the whole rhythm through it, it worked wonders.


I know what you mean. I've tried poetry a couple of times, the meaning gets somewhat lost when things have to stay in poetic harmony....

I avoid going to bed too.... anything but bed.


You have certainly touched me with this piece...

Nostromo, I loved reading that so very much, its a great piece of writing, truly from the heart, with great language etc....

You really should write more often, I have now read it a couple more times, it really is very good.

You really should give me a few pointers..... Lord knows I need them...
