But language itself is merely a shortcut to comprehension, and if we take shortcuts to get to other shortcuts, we soon notice that we have lost sight of the road.

I would be interested in your definition of ''slang" and an example of how it has shortcut. It usually seems to create extra words which sometimes slip into general use or else become outdated overtime as new slang emerges.
